As far as nails go with our polydactyl kitties. We have 2...Emma with an extra thumb and Gizmo with an extra toe. Big difference with these guys. Blue is normal although Ron seems to think he feels he's the odd one. I find that I have to clip Emma's thumb every week as it is very curved and if I don't...it is too curled to get a grip on it without her worrying about it. I find that the best time to trim nails (twice a month) is best when they are napping and on your lap. J Attachments:

Wow, now that's a Nail!
We do Scooter's on about the same schedule, his fronts grow much quicker than his rear.
He's really good about it, too. We take him outside so there is no clipping clean up. Sugar holds him in her arms, and I trim. He just watches me, and doesn't struggle or complain one bit...
We knew he was lucky for us when we did the first trim. 21 total toes, that has to be good luck living in Las Vegas. ;D

Hey Dan....that's her nail when she was just a couple of months old. It's much more curved now and very thick. No matter how often I trim Emma's nails they always 'click' when she walks.

It's amazing how even with the nails they have, that they always play soft-pawed though, huh?
It always surprises me when I extent them for a trim, they are huge, but we've yet to be scratched...

Oh we've been scratched. Ron's supporting a pretty good one on the back of his neck ATM. Blue didn't do it out of anger....he just happened to be hanging out on Ron's shoulder's when he saw a bug. Consequently, Ron was his launching pad! Emma has been upset since Gizmo's little "snip snip". Ron was cuddling her last night and she was growling like a mountain cat! Never a claw though....anyone else would of put her down in fear right away but we know she's just a softy

Oh yes, those 'extra toenails' especially need to be kept clipped! I learned my lesson years ago with a tuxedo moggy that I had - she was 'mitten toed' and the inside claw on the thumb was thick and very curved. At that time, I didn't know much about poly's and didn't keep a good eye on it and it began to grow into the paw itself and caused a nasty puncture and a trip to the vet!! Lesson learned!

OUCH!!! I have no idea what could cause that except maybe she got it caught on something.. does she chew on her paws?? Just keep it cut when it grows out...it looks like it might have been ripped off to me so something is getting caught on it ..give her a kiss for me :-)

Ouch indeed!
Ya, I bet she's getting it hooked on something, and pulling it off. I'd put some Neosporin or something on it to avoid an infection...

At first I thought someone had stepped on it! That is the shortest I can cut it before it hits the quick.
