Well, our visitor ( whatever it is ) came back.. so last night Kim hung a piece of chicken in the carport to see if it was a bear. It was too high and hanging from a cable so kind of out of raccoon reach.. It was still there this morning so at least it's not a bear! I would hate to open the door at night and find a bear on the porch! So we feel sure it is those dang raccoons, so I told Kim to shoot on sight

If it is making growling sounds it may be a fisher. They are a like a small badger or wolverine. We had one on our sons property a couple of years ago. I left him a 20lb frozen turkey once and he dragged it across a creek and 20 feet up into a tree where they like to live. Basically harmless to people unless cornered. Not a nuisance like racoons. They pretty much keep to themselves. Not too many around. Common to BC but are as far south as Oregon. Usually they will move on when confronted. Ours did when we started to build our sons house. Kind of miss him. PS: On the lighter side it was comical when he chewed my sons bag of beer cans. Shredded then beyond return for deposit. My son was a little annoyed ;D

Yup! I have a few of them too :-) That is what we used to trap the raccoons in and it is the same one my momma kitty used to go around to the back and stick her foot in and pull the food out Still miss her and still cry everyday for her.. But the trap does work.. just don't think it would be very effective on a bear
