When we got Scooter, we took him to a local vet for shots, neutering etc. They sold me on why I thought was a health insurance plan. I jokingly referred to it as his warranty. They paid for his neutering, and he gets shots twice a year and a "wellness check". Costs me around $21.00 a month.
Now, I had assumed (and I'm pretty sure I was told) it was like health insurance for him. If he had an injury or disease, I had thought they would cover it. We have been getting his shots done at another vet the last several years. They board too, so it was just easier and more convenient when we go on vacation, or long weekends. The original vet was instructed "no shots" as the other place was handling it.
I took him last week for one of the wellness checks, and talked to the receptionist about his warranty. I wanted to see if I could change the plan as he was getting his shots elsewhere. Turns out all that they are covering is the checks and shots. No major medical or anything else. Is he got sick or hurt, I would have to pay full price.
I told her I wanted to cancel the plan, so she gave ma a card to call the company that underwrites it. They can't cancel at their office. Fine. I take Scooter home and call the number. After listing to the options and pushing buttons, I get a recording saying that they are closed and to call back during business hours. That was Monday at 11:00 AM, what the hell???
I try a few more times, same deal. Look at the card again, and there is an email address. I email them a very detailed note, plan number, my name, Scooters name, vets office, number etc. A week later I get a reply. It'll cost me $250 to cancel early, or I can continue to pay for another year for $210.00
Bottom line, read the fine print. I'm stuck for another year paying for something I don't want nor need, and the "plan" is basically useless...
