You know we all do it, especially in the kitten stage. They do something silly, and we say something like, "We shoulda named her XXX instead of Bella". Here are some of our most recent.
Rocky the Flying Squirrel, or just Squirrel for short: She has learned to jump from the bar stool to the back of the couch. Cute, but not really that far. Couple of days ago she was looking like she was going to jump from the stool to the kitchen counter, which is off limits. As she prepared to make the leap, I was sitting in the other bar stool. I gave her a stern "No" and this startled her. She changed her flight path, and went for the couch. She had too much reserve power, misjudged the couch, completely cleared it and landed in the middle of the coffee table. It's easily 7 feet away, and all four legs were out trying (unsuccessfully) to stabilize her flight path. Magazines and kitten went everywhere on landing. Rocky, The Flying Squirrel, indeed.
Nascar Cat: Her latest trick is to run full speed at the bed or couch, like she is going to jump up on it. But instead, just as she reaches the point of jumping, she'll do a 180 degree turn in mid air, land feet down on the side of the couch or bed, and then propel herself back in the direction she was coming from, at wide open throttle. Just like a Nascar on the high bank turns in Bristol. Nascar Cat...
Wrong Way Corrigan: Kind of a cross between Nascar Cat and Squirrel. She'll be bounding from couch to love seat, and then realize she just ran out of places to jump next, at the last second. Stops on the back of the love seat for a split second, and then falls, ungracefully, off of the back of it. Slinks out from behind looking to see if we saw the mistake. Why yes we did, Wrong Way Corrigan...
Snooze Alarm: After Sugar goes to work, she snuggles up with me at about shoulder height. A couple hours later, my alarm goes off. If I don't immediately hit snooze, she reaches over with one soft paw and touches my nose or cheek. If I ignore the alarm or her, the touching gets more persistent. As soon as I hit the real snooze alarm, she goes back to sleep. aka Dad, Make the Noise Stop. We're sleeping right now...
Squirrel #2. Taken from the movie "Up". She'll be intent on doing or playing with something, and then for now apparent reason, get totally distracted with something else and completely lose her train of thought. Here's the clip, if you don't know what I'm talking about.
Thunk or Bonk: Related to Wrong Way Corrigan, and usually heard, but not seen. She'll be tearing around here at full gallop when something goes terribly wrong. There'll be a sound, a Thunk or Bonk, and when we go to find the source, she's walking away shaking her head. Yeah, she bonked into something and rung her bell...
Ayeth Coob: What a little kid says after they put a large ice cube in their mouth and are asked, "What do you have in your mouth?" She knows exactly what the ice maker sounds like, and will come running to get a chip of ice that escapes when filling a glass. They fascinate her, and she bats them around until they melt on the tile. This confuses the hell out of her, and when it melts she looks at us for another, Ayeth Coob.
Meerkat: Those cute little animals from Botswana we've all seen on Animal Planet. She'll do a Meerkat to take a look around, and hold the pose for a few seconds. Never long enough to get a picture, but it looks exactly like this, minus the tail. Meerkat.
There have been more, but I can't remember them right now. I'll update as she earns new aliases...
