We buy the break-away collars for both cats. Jenny, has no problem, but Scooter...
He quickly figured out how it works, and just pulls it off. We've tried tightening, and loosing it both, and it makes no difference. He just hooks it with a paw, pulls it into his mouth and rips it off.
He doesn't go out, but still, I would like to have his tag on him if he does. I would hate for him to escape, and not be returned due to lack of a collar.
Any suggestions???

Yup, I tried them as well with the same result :-) They are much too smart :-) As for Jenny.... well she is Jenny..I recomend a Micro Chip to be sure they are returned if they some how get out. They can't get them out ! :-)

Yeah, both of them are chipped. It's a daily hunt for Sugar and I to find Scooters collar...

We don't have collars on our kitties...we have a tattooed number in their ear instead. If the pound picks them up then that tattoo is in the computer. We went one step further with Gizmo and had I 'heart' MOM tattooed as well as a number in his ear. Attachments:

The chips would get either cat back from the pound, they scan all animals they bring in.
I like having a collar on them as we buy the tags at Pet Smart that are engraved with their name and our phone number. That way, if a neighbor finds them, they are only a phone call away, rather than having to have them scanned, or the tattoo code ran through a database to get them home.
It's kind of a moot point anyway, as neither cat has any interest in going outside. We can leave all the doors open for hours, and neither one of them will cross the threshold...

Wow!!! They don't try and go outside?!?! Where as Gizzy is always ready to make the great escape. I once (and not since) thought I could just take Emma to the vet with a leash in the car. She was small at the time and I casually went outside with her in my arms. She let out a howl that was blood curdling and proceeded to claw her way out of my arms and onto my back to get back into the house! I had to go back in and lay on the floor before she would release her claws out of my skin and settle down! We don't let the cats in the bedrooms but last night all three made their way in to find out what was the big deal. Hahaha....that was fun trying to fish them out. Can't even imagine which way Gizmo would run off to if he got out side. You've got me thinking about a collar now though.

It kind of surprised us too. My 1st cat, Forrest, was the master of escape. I can't tell you how many times I had to chase him through the neighborhood! He'd see me coming and take off in the other direction. Grrrrr....
We named him Forrest because he ran everywhere (Forrest & Jenny, get it?). We'd be setting on the couch and he would take off at a full on sprint through the house. Sugar & I would look at each other and say, "Run Forrest, Run!"
I actually have a great story about him running off. I'll type it up and post under the Stories section...
Neither of these two have even the slightest interest in what's beyond the glass. We've actually taken the both of them into the back yard, to see what they would do under close supervision. They will poke around for a minute or two, and then go set by the door to wait to be let back in...
